Let’s face it we are going to be, in this situation longer than expected and are facing boredom. Coronavirus has made us all homebound. The times are hard, and we are slowly running out of things to keep us motivated.
Are we bored because we do not want to do anything or, are we bored because we are unable to figure out what we want to do?
If the answer you are looking for is the latter, then I have a few tips and tricks that might help you out.
Focus on what you want to do
Figuring out your interest is the first and foremost step. If you know what you want to do but you are still not doing it? then you are dealing with a lack of motivation or are procrastinating.
Now, if you do not know what you like doing then, start figuring out your interests. You may once have started to paint but suddenly stopped. It can be anything.
Giving yourself new challenges will take you out of boredom. Start by doing small things that you can do easily. Once you get the hang of it, you can set difficult challenges.
I work out regularly hence I, set a new challenge on my way to do the Bakasana. I am still working on it but, I sure have made progress.
So, setting up a new challenge will keep motivating you to avoid boredom. Once you complete a challenge, you will set up a new task your way.
Channel your inner creativity
Human beings are creative beings. All of us are born with creativity or can hone them. Channel your inner creativity by doing some artwork, learning a musical instrument or dance.
Involving your mind in these art forms will release dopamine. Dopamine keeps the mind happy. In this way you will overcome boredom.
Learning something new will also hone your interests in something new. This is the time you want to utilize learning a new thing.
Many people are unhappy with their jobs, are out of jobs, and will be in the lookout for jobs shortly. In such a scenario why not spend your time in certification courses or learning a new skill.
Upskilling yourself will make you stand out from the rest of the crowd when all of this is done. You will also be able to successfully show off something new you learned.
Spend time with your family/ friends
Most of us are blessed to have our families by our side in this dreaded time. Otherwise, we are all running all the time to get work done. So, this time you can sit with a cup of coffee with your loved ones. Have a nice conversation or learn about your parent’s experiences in life.
Connect with your friends over a video chat, call them up casually and talk. This will not only kill your boredom but will also make you happy. In the end, you laugh a bit more and sleep with a smile on your face.
Rewatch or Reread
All of us love watching something new but, sometimes to kill boredom, you can rewatch or reread some of your old favorites. Watch friends again for the 100th time.
Watch things that make you feel good. Feel-good movies will take your mind off boredom and will put you in a better mood.
Reread some of the best novels you have read. Pick up the Harry Potter book you read as a teenager. Fall in love with the wizarding world again.
Redoing things you once loved will not only make you happy but, you will find new motivation to do other things.
Lastly, relax. Do not let the pressure to keep doing something affect you. If you are getting bored just by thinking about what all you want to achieve, then it is no boredom at all.
Sometimes you just need to relax. Eat something you like, drink a cup of coffee gazing, at the people outside. Sit back at your sofa and close your eyes for a bit.
Do not pressure yourself in doing something. It is okay, to not do anything productive.
These are some of the tips that have helped me overcome my boredom. If you are also in a similar situation, follow these hacks.
